On the road, the Everest offers an extremely user-friendly drive, and is the perfect companion for long holiday road trips and school-trips alike. The one gripe we have, however, is with the amount of engine noise that enters the cabin while accelerating up to speed. Other than that, though, the engine has more than enough torque from the engine to make accelerating an easy task, and means the Everest holds its own against its rivals in terms of driving dynamics.

In profile it looks vastly different to the last Everest, with less roundedness and top-heaviness and more of a robust, chunky appearance. It has a longer wheelbase and wider track which make it look broader and lengthier, too. At the rear there is a neat tail-light design that helps broaden the appearance of the back, and there’s a bar between those tail-lights (not an LED light like so many others) which helps that too.Other brands also struggle to make their ute-based SUVs look cohesive when it comes to the back end, but I think this is the best one yet. When it comes to third-row access, the second-row seats are split 60:40 with the 40% behind the driver, on the road side (rather than the kerb side) of the Everest. So if you are planning to use the third-row seats, if you have an older child without a child seat or in a Infasecure Folding Booster seat this is the seat you are best to put them in, so you can gain access easily to the third-row seats.

Front passengers have a clear view of the surroundings with ample room for legs, shoulders and heads, although there’s no electric seat position adjustment for either. Up to three second-row occupants are similarly accommodated with more generous space and their own ventilation fan controller, map lights and a 12-volt power supply.
